2027 is looking like it will be a very good year for 3D with recent announcements from Meta suggesting many 3D films unleashed from their restricted availability.
Since Apple launched the Vision Pro, there has been a gradual increase of 3D titles becoming available for streaming. However mostly they remained locked into the Apple ecosystem, which while understandable, significantly limited their availability. Particularly given the high cost of their VR device.
For those with Meta devices and other VR systems the option to stream 3D movies was very limited, unless you had a large 3D blu ray library and the ability and time to rip them and move them to the VR system yourself.
Recent announcements from Meta around their new Meta Glasses highlight a veritable explosion of 3D films unleashed in early 2027. Meta News.
The glasses themselves look amazing and address many of the concerns people currently raise with VR around size and weight.

The roster of 3D content is very impressive, Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+ are listed as making their 3D catalogues available for the first time.
This is in addition to select Disney+ films in VR enhanced editions and if you have the Meta glasses IMAX editions.

More 3D films unleashed ?
There is also a promise that the 3D library will keep growing with 3D favourites from Lionsgate but also the promise of ‘first time in 3D’ blockbusters for 2027. Which links into the rumours around many of James Cameron’s earlier films being converted for the format.
New 3D movies are promised each month for release, as well as immersive sporting events.
All the 3D features we have been able to view and review are here on our website. There are also a long list of classics which we would like to see – although only if converted well. You can’t help but think there will be some classics from James Cameron released in 3D in the near future. Which films would you want unleashed in 3D?
We can’t choose which of these epic announcements is more exciting at the moment. Is this an exciting chapter in the return of 3D. 3a.
