James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment bought their long time collaborators Outsyders in September. This purchase adds AI and machine learning (ML) to the capacity of the company. It is particularly interesting given the focus of both companies on creating 3D movies most recently together with Billie Eilish – HIt Me Hard And Soft.

Perhaps even more interesting for 3D production capacity is the ability of Outsyders to convert existing 2D video to polished 3D video at speed. tvbeurope
With the ability to do this quickly and at high quality it opens enormous opportunities for studios owning 2D films to monetise them again. And – if done right – could lead to films with high production values converted to 3D.
While this is a great potential, It has to be said there is a history of 3D films being created without a high enough quality bar to ensure that 3D was not just a gimmick. So we need to hope that there is a level of quality control on the selection of movies to convert in this process.
See all the 3D movies and features we have reviewed here which ones would you like to add to this list … Aliens perhaps?
Well I’d drafted this and I think the answer is yes – with a little help from Meta … see the next story.
