Avengers Doomsday

Do not miss Avengers: Doomsday and more 3D films

The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and more come together in the latest Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday dropping in December 2026. As always with these films, the support for 3D has been excellent, and the obvious opportunities for 3D with the superpowers have been well used to showcase the format including IMAX 3D.

Not 3D related but the casting of Robert Downey Jr as Dr Doom is providing plenty of pre-release discussion points. Those who have seen the extra footage added to Avengers Endgame Encore will be ahead of the game with the additional few minutes of characterisation and plot setting the scene for this movie.

And back to 3D there are now collectable 3D glasses being sold for viewings of the film – Showcase Cinemas UK, which look to be a hit already.

There is again a feeling that 3D is gaining further traction as a more mainstream format, having been kept as a premium cost option in cinemas even over the years when it was not considered for general release.

The support for 3D is building again. But don’t wait for that – there are still quite a few films being released in 3D and it is well worth ensuring these are not missed:

Upcoming 3D Movies:

  • Cat in the Hat – November 2026
  • Hexed – November 2026
  • Avengers: Doomsday – December 2026
  • Jumanji: Open World – December 2026
  • Ice Age: Boiling Point – February 2027
  • Godzilla x Kong: Supernova – March 2027

What is interesting about this list is that quiet a few of them are major titles for the audience. So the films targeted at the larger portion of the cinema going public will have 3D versions. So hopefully the number viewing in that format will be giving the studios incentive to produce more 3D films. Which is why if you do see these films – please try to watch them in the 3D showings.

There is also a more general acceptance that it will become easier to film in 3D. But also much easier to convert old 2D to 3D to enhance some classic films. Hopefully the new revenue being generated from the 3D format will be invested in new films.
